Are you sufffering from sinusitis? If yes, you know pretty well that managing sinusitis is a difficult task. You may have received hundreds of suggestions from people about managing sinusitis with some common or easy ways. These tips range from steam inhalation to using anti-allergic medicines or nasal sprays. I am going to tell you a far better method. This method has been personally observed to be far more effective than any other thing under the sun. The method that I am going to tell you happens to be the one taught in the ancient practice of Yoga-Jal Neti and is easily the best way to manage sinusitis.
How to do Jal Neti
Jal Neti is done with the help of a pot with a pout, as given in this picture.
Such a pot is easily available at all shops selling utensils. The procedure for doing jal-neti is as follows—
- Boil water with a spoonful of salt added in it. You can also add some black cardamom ( moti elaichi in Hindi) to the water.
- Let the water cool down a bit till it is lukewarm. Strain the water and pour it in the jal-neti pot.
- Stand at the wash basin with your head tilted to the left side and the pout of the pot inserted just into your right nostril ( see pic) . Open your mouth a bit and keep breathing through the mouth. The water will on its own enter the right nostril and come out of the left nostril.
- Similarly, bend your head towards the right and the pout of the pot into the left nostril. The water will enter the left nostril and come out of the right nostril.
- Keep doing this alternately for about 3-5 minutes. The only trick to be observed during the procedure is that you have to do nothing. Just open your mouth a bit, keep breathing through your mouth and let the water do its job.
Advantages of Jal-neti in managing Sinusitis
This is easily the best way when it comes to managing Sinusitis. Let me explain why it is so.
- The hot water provides warm fomentation deep into the recesses of the nose.
- Water forces out the collected mucous and the millions of micro-organisms present in the mucous. These may be bacteria or viruses present in the mucous.
- Salt added into the water helps in reducing swelling inside the nasal passages and that of the mucous membranes.
- The medicinal value of black cardamom ( it has anti-inflammatory benefits) helps in reducing inflammation within the nasal cavities.
